The GTA 6 map: every confirmed region in Leonida
Leonida is Rockstar's Florida, it is three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2, and six regions are confirmed. Here is each one, the real place it is built from, and what has actually been shown of it.

Grand Theft Auto VI is set in the state of Leonida — Rockstar's version of Florida, and the first time the series has given us an entire state rather than a city and its outskirts.
Six regions are confirmed. The county names in circulation come from road signs, police liveries and, in one case, a leak rather than from anything Rockstar has written — which county is which, and the real Florida behind each is its own piece. Here is what each region actually is.
How big it is
This is now answered, and the answer is large.
The Leonida map is roughly three times the playable area of Red Dead Redemption 2, and about twice the size of GTA V's map. Vice City alone is around twice the size of Los Santos. Those figures came from Rockstar directly, through press previews and developer interviews rather than fan measurement.
Treat square-mileage numbers with more caution — comparative figures are what Rockstar has given, and converting them into acreage involves assumptions Rockstar has not made. How big the map really is takes each ratio apart, including the eleven-times figure that is being misquoted everywhere. But the shape of it is settled: this is comfortably the largest world the studio has built.
Vice City — Vice-Dale County
The flagship, and Rockstar's Miami. Vice-Dale is the analogue of Miami-Dade County, and the naming follows a consistent pattern: real neighbourhoods, renamed with the serial numbers filed off.
Rockstar's own description of the city picks out four places: Ocean Beach, Little Cuba — its rendering of Little Havana, down to the bakeries — the Tisha-Wocka flea market and the Vice City Port. Road signage in the trailers adds Downtown, the Stockyard that stands in for Wynwood and its warehouse-and-mural district, Vice City International Airport, and a sign reading Vice Beaches. Washington Beach, Starfish Island and the Ocean View Hotel are callbacks to the 2002 game named in coverage rather than places Rockstar has described. Which is which, and why the district maps in circulation run well ahead of the evidence, is in every Vice City district Rockstar has actually named.
Rockstar's own pitch for the county is excess — glamour, hustle and greed in one place. It is the densest part of the map and, on the evidence so far, where most of the story lives.
Leonida Keys
The island chain trailing off the southern end of the state, built from the Florida Keys. Fan maps file it, with Grassrivers, under Mariana County — a name that appears on a single trailer sign — and Rockstar has not placed either region in it.
Notably, this is where Jason and Lucia start. Their apartment is in the Keys, not in Vice City itself, and the game opens with the protagonists looking at the skyline from the outside. It is also Brian Heder's territory — a boat yard, a smuggling operation past its era, and the beach bars around it.
Structurally the Keys are the game's starting position in both senses: geographically peripheral, and socially outside the city that the story is trying to get into.
Grassrivers
Cypress wetlands across the southwest, drawn from the Everglades, and one of the largest natural regions on the map.
Too shallow for boats and too soft for roads, which is why airboats are a confirmed vehicle class — a first for the series, and a strong hint that this region is built around traversal as a problem to solve rather than a road to drive. Alligators and other predators are confirmed to be out there. Every time the airboat has been shown, and what Rockstar has actually written about the marsh, is its own piece; the rest of the confirmed vehicle classes, and what Rockstar has said about handling, are in driving and vehicles.
Rockstar's framing treats it as the untamed part of the state: primordial, ecologically significant, and not really anybody's.
Port Gellhorn
Leonida's forgotten coast, built from Panama City on the Florida panhandle. The Kelly County it is usually filed under is a name from a trailer exit sign; Rockstar has not put the town in it.
A town that used to live on tourism and now does not: cheap motels, shut-down attractions, empty strip malls. Dirt bikes have been shown as a way around it, which fits a place with more broken ground than maintained road.
This is the map's melancholy corner, and the clearest signal that Leonida is not only neon. Every open-world Rockstar map needs somewhere the boom did not reach, and this is it.
Ambrosia — Ambrosia County
A company town in the most literal sense, sitting beside Lake Leonida in the agricultural centre of the state — Hendry County, in real terms, rather than anywhere coastal.
The Allied Crystal sugar refinery employs the place, and the Final Chapter biker gang supplies more or less everything else. That setup — one employer, one gang, no third option — reads like mission territory before anyone has confirmed a single mission there. Rockstar's description frames the region as where the fight over the state's health and wealth actually happens, which is a fairly direct statement of intent.
Highways, farmland, railroads and factories fill in around the town.
Mount Kalaga National Park
Leonida's high country in the north: protected wilderness, forest roads, canyons and real elevation. The real-world basis is less purely Floridian — the canyon landscape draws on Providence Canyon in Georgia as much as anywhere in the state. The Lummox County it is often given exists only in leaked material; Rockstar has never shown the name.
Rockstar's description promises hunting, fishing and off-road trails, and the official stills add kayaking; the surrounding backwoods are home, in Rockstar's words, to hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals. It is the furthest you can get from Vice City without leaving the state, and the counterweight to all that neon. What has actually been written and shown about the park, and what Rob Nelson has said about hunting and fishing, is its own piece.
What is still unconfirmed
Rockstar has not released a full map image, so the exact shape and the borders between regions remain unknown, and there may be regions not yet named — six confirmed is a floor, not a ceiling.
Also unconfirmed: how much of the water between the Keys and the mainland is traversable, whether Mount Kalaga's elevation supports anything the series has not done before, and where the story actually spends its time. A large map and a well-used map are different things, and the Extended Look only showed a handful of places at length.
Every region named above is plotted on the interactive map. We keep a running breakdown of each of them on the Leonida overview, and the Extended Look breakdown covers what the gameplay reveal showed of them before launch on 19 November.

The Rockstar tribunal: what a Glasgow courtroom has revealed about GTA 6
Rockstar dismissed 34 staff across its UK and Canadian studios on 30 October 2025. Thirty-one of them are now in front of an employment tribunal in Glasgow that runs until mid-October, and Rockstar's own filings have become the first place the studio has ever referred to a GTA VI online format.

Miami is being turned into Vice City: the rooftop sign, the beach deal, and who signed them
A helicopter lifted WELCOME TO VICE CITY onto the roof of the Miami Heat's arena on 22 September. Miami-Dade County is collecting $975,000 for it, Miami Beach has voted 4-3 to take at least $3 million more, and Rockstar has said nothing publicly about either. Here is what the public records actually show.

Six wanted stars are back, and underneath them sits a row of icons showing exactly what the police have on you — your face, your clothes, your car, your partner, the CCTV. Here is how the heat system works in Grand Theft Auto VI, and what Rockstar still has not said.
