Edge went to Rockstar North to see GTA 6, and the 16 pages land on 29 October
Edge announced on 27 October that Grand Theft Auto VI is the cover star of issue 430: a 16-page report, exclusive Rockstar interviews, bespoke screenshots and a double-sided gatefold of Jason and Lucia, free to read online on 29 October. The magazine's team went to Rockstar's Edinburgh HQ and saw the game running. Here is what has actually been announced, and what has not.

Grand Theft Auto VI is the cover star of Edge issue 430, and the feature goes live on 29 October 2026. The magazine's publisher announced it on 27 October: sixteen pages, interviews with Rockstar staff, screenshots made for the piece, and a double-sided gatefold cover showing Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. The whole report will be free to read online on gamesradar.com the day the issue reaches subscribers.
One detail separates this from the three magazine features that preceded it. Edge's team went to Rockstar's Edinburgh headquarters and saw Grand Theft Auto VI running. Every earlier cover story this year was reported as interviews and supplied imagery; this one is reported as a visit.
The thing to be clear about on day one is that the feature is not out yet. What exists today is an announcement describing what it will contain, plus a set of low-resolution images circulating ahead of publication that nobody has stood up. Everything below is either announced or explicitly marked as not announced.

Why a studio visit is the part worth noting
The pre-launch press has run on supplied material. Dazed, Game Informer and LOVE each got interviews and images; none of the three was described as having been reported from inside a Rockstar building. Edge's is, and its publisher's announcement says the team spoke to the studio's leadership rather than to feature leads.
That raises the ceiling on what the piece can contain without lowering the floor on scepticism. Seeing a game running is not the same as playing it, and the announcement does not say which happened. The distinction decides whether the feature can describe how the game feels — input, pacing, how long anything takes — or only what it looks like from a sofa while someone else holds the controller. Both produce good copy. Only one produces copy about mechanics.
It is also worth being precise about the studio. Rockstar North, in Edinburgh, is the studio most associated with the series, and Rockstar has consistently described Grand Theft Auto VI as the work of its studios worldwide rather than of any one of them. A visit to Edinburgh is not evidence that Edinburgh built the game, and nothing in the announcement claims it is.
The press run, in order
Edge 430 is the seventh scheduled beat since August, and the fourth magazine:
| Date | What it was | |
|---|---|---|
| Dazed, autumn 2026 issue | 26 August 2026 | Cover interview; source for the character condition systems |
| Extended Look | 27 August 2026 | 26 minutes of PS5 gameplay — broken down here |
| Game Informer issue 382 | 29 September 2026 | Fourteen pages, twelve screenshots, the weather and wildlife answers |
| LOVE issue 27 | 5 October 2026 | Rockstar's narrative team on the record, and a writing director for the open world |
| Launch trailer | 15 October 2026 | The last trailer before release |
| First television advert | 20 October 2026 | The launch trailer, recut for NBC |
| Edge issue 430 | 29 October 2026 | Sixteen pages, studio visit, interviews, bespoke screenshots |
Two patterns hold across all of it. Rockstar has not posted about a single one of these features on its own Newswire, which is a change from 2012, when it mirrored the Game Informer GTA V cover story itself. And each magazine has been given a different subject: Dazed got fashion and characters, Game Informer got the state and its systems, LOVE got the writing. What Edge has been given has not been said, and a magazine that reviews games for a living is the one most likely to have asked about design.
The images circulating are not the issue
Low-resolution images attributed to the feature have been circulating since the announcement. This page is not describing them, and neither should anything else until the issue is out. They are the wrong resolution to read detail from, their provenance is a social repost rather than a publisher, and at least some accounts of them note the possibility that they have been altered. Claims built on them about wildlife, characters or mechanics are not reporting.
That is not a close call. Rockstar's own official screenshots are published at full resolution with a known source, and the twelve that came out with Game Informer's issue arrived the same way — through the magazine, at print quality, on the publication date. Three days of guesswork off a compressed repost buys nothing that Thursday does not supply for free.
What is not confirmed
- Who Edge spoke to. The announcement says Rockstar interviews and the studio's leadership. No name has been given.
- Whether Edge played the game. "Saw it running" is what has been reported. Hands-on and a demonstration are different things and the difference has not been stated.
- What the sixteen pages cover. No subject, system or mechanic has been named — not one. This is a thinner announcement than Game Informer's, which at least named three subjects it would cover.
- Anything in the circulating images. Resolution, provenance and possible retouching all rule them out.
- That Rockstar will publish the screenshots itself. It has not done so for any feature in this run.
- A Newswire post. None announced.
- Anything about the PC version. The feature has not been described as touching it.
- A review embargo or review code distribution. Still nothing from Rockstar, and a magazine preview is not a review — if you are trying to stay clean until launch, the spoiler guide is the relevant page.
- Any change to the date. Grand Theft Auto VI still ships on 19 November 2026, twenty-two days from today, and nothing here moves it — see the date and its history of moving.
What to do on 29 October
Read the feature before reading the summaries of it, and give it an hour before deciding what it said. A sixteen-page report produced from a studio visit is the format most likely to contain a sentence of real design detail and the format most likely to have that sentence lifted out of its qualifiers by the time it reaches a headline. The weather line in Game Informer's announcement went through exactly that cycle a month ago, and the issue, when it arrived, was narrower than the week of speculation that preceded it.
The two faces on the gatefold are the only part of the announcement that is already fully described, because they are not new: this is the fourth cover this year to put Jason and Lucia on the front of a magazine. What is behind them is the question, and it is three days from being answered rather than guessed.
Sourcing note: rockstargames.com, gamesradar.com, pcgamer.com, eurogamer.net, kotaku.com and gamespot.com all fail to resolve from this writer's network, so neither the announcement nor the cover was viewed first-hand and nothing here comes directly from Rockstar or from Edge. The issue number, the sixteen pages, the exclusive Rockstar interviews, the bespoke screenshots, the double-sided gatefold of Jason and Lucia, the free online publication on 29 October at gamesradar.com and the 27 October announcement timestamp are carried as GamesRadar+ — Edge's own publisher — announced them. The Edinburgh studio visit and the detail that Edge saw the game running are carried as PC Gamer reported them on 27 October. The circulating low-resolution images are described only as circulating; their content is not reported here, and no claim derived from them has been used.

GTA 6 scams: there is no demo, no beta and no early access — and the "installer" is 1.1 MB
Local television in Miami warned about fake Grand Theft Auto VI early-access offers on 18 October. Rockstar has released no demo, no beta and no PC build, preload does not open until 12 November, and the file sold as a GTA 6 installer is 1.1 MB of password-stealing malware. What exists, what cannot, and what to do if you ran one.

The Game Awards has published its 2026 cutoff, and GTA 6 clears it with a day to spare
The Game Awards 2026 requires a game to be commercially available by 9pm PT on Friday 20 November. Grand Theft Auto VI ships on 19 November, so it is eligible. But nominees are announced in mid-November, before anyone outside Rockstar has played it — and that, not the cutoff, is what decides whether it reaches a ballot.

Does GTA 6 have a first-person mode? Rockstar has never answered the question
No trailer, screenshot, interview or store listing from Rockstar mentions a camera mode. A creator shown the game at Rockstar North says there is none at launch beyond weapon aiming; footage taken from a development build is said to show first-person driving. Here is the record, the GTA V and Red Dead 2 precedent, and why neither claim settles it.
